The Civics Education Initiative is the first step to ensure all students are taught basic civics about how our government works, and who we are as a nation…things every student should know to be ready for active, engaged citizenship. In affiliation with the Joe Foss Institute, this app was developed to provide students, teachers, and parents with a set of resources to support active citizenship. The app is designed to deliver each of the resources listed below in an engaging, student-friendly way. The app allows students to access, review and complete the learning materials necessary to learn the topics required for graduation.
Main Features:
• A digital version of the 100 question Citizenship Test that is automatically graded and presents students with the questions they answered correctly and incorrectly upon submission.
• A set of 100 Flashcards to help students learn the basic facts covered on the Citizenship Test.
• A set of 100 adaptive videos available to students to learn the facts and concepts covered on the Citizenship Test. Each video is built as a series of clips that load based upon the student’s answer choices to questions presented in the video.
• A set of 100 Instructor Guides designed as lesson plans for teachers. Each guide includes background information, classroom activities, discussion prompts and supporting resources.
• A set of 13 Thematic Units connecting the big picture concepts covered on the Citizenship Test. The learning resources are designed to build a deeper understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, and each unit includes an animated overview, several online activities and a project prompt for students to complete and submit to their teacher.
